iVideoCamera – an app that lets you record video on any iPhone (no really)

iVideoCamera was finally approved by apple last night after many many months of approval process fun. This app lets your record about 3 fps on any iPhone (well its for you 3g owners out there). I know it seems like we just put out this app (and we kinda did), but VideoSlides was a result of iVideoCamera not getting approved though we firmly believe the photo snaps to video with its three different capture modes warrants its own app.

Apple is definitely opening up what we can do with video capture (i.e. UStream and Knocking Video) so we expect to improve the frame rate and length of iVideoCamera in the next update.

I gotta say you guys are doing a truly amazing thing! While the app is currently not that useful with so many limitations, I can tell this is the start of a great thing! I hope the next version will get rid of the limitations and make it the terrific app it could be! Any idea when the new update will be up?

  2. Ian says:

This has potential to be one of my top 5 apps ever. I just hope Apple let’s you take this to its full potential.

bought the app. kinda cool–but its not posting to my facebook. the email worked ok..but im scared to try anything else. how long does it take to post to facebook.? ive been waiting 30 mins since i sent the post and facebook isnt showing it.?!!

  4. admin says:

facebook usually takes a couple mins — you need to look in videos — videos by me — fb puts them in an odd spot

  5. Sebastian Buggle says:

    When is the update coming?

  6. john says:

really great work! you should have a donate section, maybe some of us will give donations to help fund your updates. i am curious, did you run into problems with apple when you got this app approved? why haven’t we had a video camera app until now?

also one problem i also noticed was when i submitted my video to youtube, it was upside down. so i went a recorded another video the other way, and its now right side up, might be good idea to have this auto correct the video no matter how your pointing your iphone.

  7. Nho says:

How much longer for the new update?

  8. Matt B says:

When will you release the update?

  9. FC says:

This app is amazing. I don’t get why people would moan about it as even in it’s current state, it adds a feature to the 3G that we DON’T HAVE. 3fps is better than 0fps… To be able to convert a stills camera to a video camera WITHOUT major hardware upgrades is an epic feat.

YOU WIN 10 INTARWEBZ FOR THIS APP!

app update has been submitted to apple

  11. Armejia says:

Thanks for the update, we are waiting. Merry christmas. Good applicattion.

  12. WeegieMac says:

This app is nothing short of superb. It also proves, beyond reasonable doubt, that the iPhone 3G could (and should) be updated by Apple officially to allow the recording of video via it’s built in camera, even if it is to a lesser standard than the 3GS with it’s newer, and dedicated camera.

If this app manages to be approved by Apple again, and this is my main concern given their inconsistencies in app approval, then the higher frame rate (even at 15fps) and higher resolution will be most welcome, although I hope early adopters are rewarded with the update for free should the price be increased?

What I also loved about this app is that it has the exact same trim interface as the iPhone 3GS, right down to the yellow trim timeline … absolutely fantastic, and again surprising given that Apple have rejected IM apps in the past because the “bubbles” resembled those used in the official iPhone SMS app.

Fingers crossed the update makes it through unscathed, and hopefully Apple doesn’t take it time deciding whether or not the update should be allowed or not.

  33. Jason says:

I just purchased this and for $0.99 it is quite the bargain. I do think that I should get more than 6 seconds of hi resolution video when I have 12 gigs free though.

The touch areas are messed up when I want to “Share” a video and connect with Facebook…..This is driving me nuts. Please fix it!

I plan to be patient in waiting for your update. This app is worth the wait. I like the auto storage of your videos, and ease of use. Don’t need the fancy effects.

  43. 21w says:

Like it, but it’s hard as hell to share the videos. Almost impossible. Youtube is giving me BAD AUTHENTICATION error msg, email attachment doesn’t attach the images if it’s more than 10MB and I don’t know how could it be more than 10MB if the app doesn’t let you shoot more than a minute or so. Facebook: I can’t even log on to it thru iVideo…so I find this app kinda useless at this point.

  44. ozzie says:

For all those have problems with facebook upload your videos to Youtube and from there to facebook! let this people work in peace on the signing problem with Facebook and stop with those stupid threatening messages . Come on you just paid 0.99 for a video app if you don’t like it buy the new iphone and be happy!!!!

  45. JM says:

New update is pretty nice. Video quality is on par with QIK. If only the FPS is better, it will beat the QIK.

  46. Pete says:

Hi guys. Love the app. Kudos on getting the facebook connect working. I’ve been looking high and low for video editing apps for iPhone 3G but apparently at this point they’re only available for the 3GS or for jail-broken phones. Any chance you guys are working on that for a future update to iVideo Camera? That would awesome.

Once added to Camera Roll, how do you export to a PC?
Otherwise App is good, FPS could be better.
    Thanks
