Laan Labs was founded in 2009 by Christopher and Jason Laan or rather the Brothers Laan as they are often referred to in tech circles with the goal of bringing innovative apps to the new wave of Smart Phones.
With their iPhone apps they have always tried to push the boundaries of the hardware. Their first app, Remote Sound Box, allowed one iphone/ipod or computer to play sounds on another iPhone/iPod followed with LightWriter which let users “write” message in long exposure shots. Other notable apps included SonarRuler which bounces sound waves from the iPhones speaker off a wall and back to its microphone to determine distance and iTimeLapse Pro, which lets users make timelapse video by setting up their phone to automatically take a picture every few seconds and then render those pictures into a video.
To date, iVideoCamera, has been their biggest hit with more than a few downloads. Initially developed to let older 2G/3G phones record video, a feature apple did not include until their 3GS model, it now also lets any phone record videos with real-time effects such as heat-vision or sparkles so its great for all iPhone models.
When the brothers are not make apps for themselves they also do client work for such notables as NBC Universal, TweetDeck, SCVNGR (recent google investment). Both are Christopher and Jason have engineering backgrounds, Electrical and Chemical respectively.
