This policy explains what information Laan Labs (“we”) collects through this website, labs.laan.com, and through the apps we publish, and what we do with it. Questions can be sent to labs@laan.com.

This website

Information you send us

When you use the contact form we receive what you enter: your name, your email address, a phone number if you choose to give one, and your message. The same applies when you email us directly. We use this to reply to you and to discuss the work you contacted us about. We do not add you to a mailing list.

Information collected automatically

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. It sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you visit, the site that referred you, your browser and device type, and your approximate location derived from your IP address. Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and for operating the site.

You can prevent analytics collection by blocking cookies in your browser or by using Google’s opt-out browser add-on. The site works without them.

The site search runs in your browser. What you type into it is not sent to us.

Who processes this information

We use a small number of service providers to run the site, and they process information on our behalf:

  • Google Analytics, for usage statistics.
  • Our web hosting provider, which serves the site and keeps server logs.
  • Our email delivery provider, which delivers contact form messages to our inbox.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Apps published by Laan Labs

Each app’s listing in the App Store or Google Play describes the data that app collects, and an app may have its own privacy policy, which takes precedence over this section for that app. Where an app links to this page, the following applies.

  • An app may automatically collect technical information such as the type of device, its operating system, an IP address and information about how the app is used. We use it to operate and improve the app.
  • We do not collect the precise location of your device.
  • Usage information sent to analytics services is aggregated and is used only to help us improve the app.
  • Photos, videos, scans and other content you create stay on your device unless you choose to share or export them, or unless the app’s own description says otherwise.
  • You can stop all collection by an app by uninstalling it.

When we disclose information

We disclose personal information only:

  • to the service providers described above, who may use it only to provide their service to us;
  • when the law requires it, for example in response to a subpoena or similar legal process;
  • when we believe in good faith that it is necessary to protect our rights, your safety or the safety of others, or to investigate fraud;
  • if Laan Labs is involved in a merger, an acquisition or a sale of assets, in which case we will post a notice on this site.

How long we keep it

We keep messages you send us for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any work that follows from it. Automatically collected usage information is kept for up to 24 months and may be kept after that in aggregate form.

Your choices

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or ask us to stop using it, by writing to labs@laan.com. We will respond within a reasonable time. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, including the right to complain to a data protection authority.

Children

This website and our apps are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact labs@laan.com and we will delete it.

Security

We limit access to personal information to the people who need it to do their work and we use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect it. No system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Where information is processed

Laan Labs is based in the United States, and the information described here is processed there and in the other countries where our service providers operate.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the date at the top.
