3D Capture & Technology Licensing

License proven mobile 3D scanning, photogrammetry and Gaussian splatting pipelines as SDKs, source code or white-label apps.

Laan Labs licenses its 3D capture technology to companies that want scanning in their own product without building it from scratch. The pipelines cover iPhone and iPad LiDAR scanning, TrueDepth close-range scanning, RoomPlan floor plans, photogrammetry and Gaussian splatting, and are available as compiled frameworks your developers integrate, as source code your team builds on, or as white-label apps. Laan Labs also builds custom integrations on top of them and offers RadianceView, its browser-based platform for inspection and documentation.

The technology has been proven at scale. Laan Labs created 3D Scanner App, one of the first and most widely used LiDAR scanning apps on iOS, and licensed versions of it to insurers, startups and industrial clients before selling the app in 2025. The same engineering now powers OpenSurvey3D for georeferenced fieldwork, 3D Splat App for Gaussian splatting on Mac, and RadianceView.

Licensing suits companies in insurance, construction, real estate, manufacturing, medical and aerospace that need reliable capture inside a workflow they control, and startups with their own computer vision teams that want a tested starting point instead of a year of foundational work.

What we do

Framework (SDK) licenses
Compiled iOS frameworks for LiDAR, TrueDepth and photo capture, processing and export that your developers drop into an app, with Laan Labs maintaining the technology inside.
Source code licenses
Full source for your engineering team to modify and extend, with onboarding from the people who wrote it. Chosen by startups that want to own their stack and move fast.
White-label apps
A complete, branded scanning app delivered under your name, with the features your users need and nothing they do not.
Custom integration
Scanning connected to your systems: policy and claims workflows, asset databases, cloud storage, measurement and reporting, as built for an insurance client's estimation and claims process.
Export and interoperability
Meshes, point clouds, floor plans and splats in standard formats such as OBJ, USDZ, glTF, PLY, LAS, DXF, SPZ and SOG, so captures flow into CAD, GIS, BIM and web viewers.
RadianceView
An inspection-grade platform that combines mobile scans, LiDAR, Gaussian splats and photographs into one browser-based record, with findings tied to where they were seen.

How we work

A licensing conversation starts with the use case: what is being captured, by whom, on which devices, and what has to happen to the result. From that Laan Labs recommends the capture method (LiDAR, TrueDepth, photos or a combination) and the license type, and provides an evaluation build so your team can test on real jobs before committing.

Licenses include integration support and updates for new devices and OS releases; custom work is scoped and quoted separately. Contact labs@laan.com for pricing.

Build it in-house or license it?

Mobile 3D capture looks approachable until the edge cases arrive: tracking loss, drift, reflective surfaces, memory limits, and a new device every autumn. This is the trade-off companies weigh before licensing.

Time to first usable scan

Build in-house

Many months of foundational work before the product feature can start.

License from Laan Labs

Working capture inside your app in weeks.

Technical risk

Build in-house

Unknowns in tracking, reconstruction and device support discovered along the way.

License from Laan Labs

Technology already proven in apps used by millions of people.

Team

Build in-house

Requires hiring and keeping computer vision specialists.

License from Laan Labs

Your developers integrate; the engineers who wrote it support them.

Maintenance

Build in-house

You track every new iPhone, sensor and OS release yourself.

License from Laan Labs

Updates for new devices and OS versions are part of the license.

Ownership

Build in-house

You own what you manage to finish.

License from Laan Labs

A source code license is available if you want to own and extend the code.

Cost

Build in-house

Salaries and time, before any revenue from the feature.

License from Laan Labs

A known fee, quoted up front.

Teams with a computer vision group of their own often take a source license and build on it; teams without one take the framework and concentrate on their product.

Common questions

Which devices and sensors does the technology support?

LiDAR scanning runs on iPhone Pro and iPad Pro models with the LiDAR sensor. TrueDepth scanning runs on any iPhone or iPad with Face ID. Photo-based capture, photogrammetry and Gaussian splatting work with images from any camera, including drones and 360° cameras, and the processing runs on-device, on a Mac or in the cloud depending on the pipeline.

How accurate are mobile LiDAR scans?

Under good conditions iPhone and iPad LiDAR scans are accurate to roughly the centimeter at room scale, which is suitable for documentation, estimation, floor plans and visualization. They are not a replacement for survey-grade instruments where millimeter precision is required; for small objects, TrueDepth scanning at close range gives finer detail.

What does a license cost?

Pricing depends on the technology, the license type (framework, source or white-label) and the scale of use, and is quoted per project. Contact Laan Labs at labs@laan.com with a description of the use case.

Do you still own 3D Scanner App?

No. Laan Labs sold 3D Scanner App to a private investor in July 2025. The capture technology Laan Labs licenses today is its own continuing engineering, and the company keeps building 3D capture products such as RadianceView, OpenSurvey3D and 3D Splat App.
